ABSTRACT

From the current urban paradigm of «Smart Cities» we sought to carry out an exercise in approaching the most appropriate tools and instruments of Planning for the conservation and management of urban historic centers towards Sustainable Tourism. It sought to generate a comprehensive urban and territorial analysis exercise of one of the regions in India with a greater inventory of assets articulating concepts contemporary associated with the planning and management of historic centers in the key with the concepts of sustainable and inclusive development.

The product of this exercise also sought to bring participants closer to the formulation of projects and / or action plans in historic centers according to different methodologies in the framework of Intersectoral and International Cooperation for development. The case of the city of Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh state was analyzed through a practical planning and management exercise in partnership with BHU «Banaras Hindu University», APIED «Arvindbhai Patel institute of Environmental Design», CET «College of Engineering of Trivandrum «and the International Organization BURO DAP (Development + Architecture + Planning), with regional office in Ahmedabad, India. In addition, UNESCAP, based in Bangkok, supported the activities in Thailand. Visits, guided tours and academic talks are scheduled in the cities of India and Thailand listed in this international course.
